When Ocean Spray asked its AOR Orchard Creative to make disruptive work to remind people of the unique role of the brand at the holidays, we were vibrating with excitement.

We started by thinking about the cranberry’s essential qualities, and its “ambassadors”—historically, the people who bring the cranberry to the holiday meal are usually the wild cards–the unpredictable party guests. So we just extrapolated from that truth. What if the cranberry was quite literally the catalyst for transforming a bland and tense holiday into something way more interesting?

So that led us to the most iconic and unpredictable version of the cranberry—the jellied cranberry logs that we’ve all seen on the holiday table for generations.

It’s not often that a product is this iconic or this fundamentally strange. How it looks, how it moves, what a punch in the tastebuds it is. So to us it was obvious: the most interesting thing we could do is magnify and celebrate its weirdness.

We got to work with the wonderful Jeff Low, and laughed hysterically with every take. It was a psychedelic experience.

In order to truly bring the alien power of the jelly to life, we collaborated with Mack Goudy Jr from the band Detroit Grand Pubahs (“Sandwiches"). And here’s the lyric video.
